It's a tough world for today's hard pressed ground working contractor. You've got to get the job done fast but not break pipes or cables.
Now, in this demanding situation, powerful help is at hand. The high performance XD CABLE AVOIDANCE TOOL provides ultimate information about undergound services before you dig!

Cable Avoidance Tool XD
Desription
Multi function digital locator with depth measurement. Low service costs designed-in.
Function
Locates a wide variety of underground pipes and cables, primarily as an aid to safe excavation.
Operation
-Used alone, the Cable Avoidance Tool detects natural signals being carried on the majority of underground pipes and cables.
-The LCD display indicates signal strength on a highly responsive bar graph. The precise location and direction of pipes and cables can easily be determined.
-The unit is lightweight and highly durable with built in loudspeaker which can be detached and held next to the ear in noisy work environments.
-Very little training is required to use the equipment successfully.
-The Cable Avoidance Tool also detects the signals radiated from C.Scope Transmitters, which enables a greater range of selective tracing possibilties.
With transmitter signal on the line, pressing the depth button gives an accurate depth indication.

The C.A.T locator can be used with:
1. C.Scope signal generator
Description
Self contained signal transmitter.
Function
Capable of sending a signal down a metallic pipe or cable so that it can be traced by a detector receiving signals on the same frequency.
Operation
-The C.Scope Signal Generator supplies a 33KHz signal which can be applied to a metallic service either by a direct connection or by induction.
-A pulsed tone is used for general detection purposes as this is easy to pick out from other signals on the same line.
-A continuous tone is used for depth measurement.
-Signal strength is adjustable for greater selectivity or longer distance tracing.
-Connection of the signal to the service is made either by connection (using the leads and clips supplied), or via a Signal Clamp, or by induction where the Signal Generator is placed near the service in question

2. Minitran (sonde) transmitter
Description
Self cointained waterproof transmitter for use with the C.A.T
Function
Allows the tracing of non-metallic pipes, drains and conduits.
Operation
-The C.Scope Minitran is a completely self contained transmitter (sometimes called a "sonde").
-In typical usage the Minitran is screwed onto the end of a set of drain rods or conduit threading rod, inserted into the pipe to be traced and thus propelled along the pipe.
-An operator on the surface can follow the movement of the Minitran using a C.A.T receiver in the transmitter mode and operating on the matching frequency.
-If the purpose of the procedure is to find a pipe collapse, the movement of the minitran will stop at the point of blockage and the signal radiating at that point will indicate where to dig to repair the pipe damage.
-If using C.A.T XD equipment, it will also be possible to determine the depth of the Minitran, up to a limit of about 9 metres.
-The Minitran is highly robust and completely waterproof.
-The equipment has very many applications in the drain cleaning and drain inspection industries.

3. Plastic Pipe Tracing Rod
Description
This is a very flexible type of plastic rod which has a wire
inside and a small transmitter coil at the end.
Function
It is available in 20metre
and 50metre lengths. It is used to trace the direction of non-metal pipes
which can be very small in diameter.
Operation
The tracing rod is connected to the Signal Generator so that a 33kHz signal can be sent along the rod. The rod is then pushed into the pipe end and as far as it will go. The rod inside
the pipe can then be traced by an operator using a CAT XD Locator.
The signal received from the rod can be selected to be from the coil transmitter at it's end, or from the whole wire lenght.
